Not in Whispers

About the organisation

A safe childhood is a responsibility all adults share

A non-governmental organisation working to prevent and counter gender-based, domestic and sexual violence.

Mission

We strive for a world without violence, so we make evidence-based sexuality education accessible to everyone.

Vision

A Ukraine where sexuality is no longer spoken about in whispers.

Why we exist

Silence does not protect

A family spending time together

Most adults sincerely want to protect their child but don’t have the words for the conversation. No one taught them to talk about the body, consent and boundaries - so the topic gets put off until later, or reduced to prohibitions that don’t work.

Comprehensive sexuality education is our core area, but not the only one. We provide psychological help to women, teenagers and families, work with service members and their partners in sexual rehabilitation, and our team’s lawyer provides initial legal advice to survivors.

All of this is one and the same work: preventing and countering gender-based, domestic and sexual violence.

Explain today. Protect tomorrow.

Principles

What our work stands on

Evidence-based

We rely on research and international standards, not on guesses or personal convictions.

Age-appropriate

Every topic is presented the way a person of that age can take it in - no earlier and no later.

Voluntary

Participation in classes and conversations is always voluntary. No one has to share what they are not ready to share.

Confidential

What is said in a class or in a request stays between the people it concerns.

Non-discriminatory

We work with people regardless of sex, age, health, background or experience.

Survivor-centred

The needs and safety of the survivor come first - not the convenience of the process.

Areas of work

Four areas that reinforce one another

Comprehensive sexuality education, preventing and countering violence, psychological and psychosexual support, and advocacy for systemic change.

History

How we got here

Not in Whispers began long before its official registration - with educational meetings, conversations with children, teenagers, parents and professionals, and a need for a space where sexuality, safety, boundaries and relationships could be discussed openly and without stigma.

Over more than two years this work grew into dozens of educational and public events, new partnerships and joint initiatives. It became clear that stand-alone events were no longer enough - the experience, the team and the audience’s demand called for systemic work and the ability to scale what already works.

On 30 December 2025, Not in Whispers became a registered non-governmental organisation. This was not the beginning of its work - it was the next stage: the ability to build long-term programmes, expand partnerships, run its own projects and drive change systemically.
